Conversation Circles offer an opportunity to further dialogue about topics and issues chosen by the participants. We want to move forward. Individuals and small groups might choose to look inward to understand and eradicate internalized racism. We might focus on behaviors, attitudes, and emotions as we learn and grow in regards to why and how racism is experienced, distinguishing between historical and individual racism. These discussions provide a safe, supportive place to talk together about what it means to live in contemporary society, and to push all of us to see racism as a commonality, and that all people are racialized. Communication Circles offer support for developing one’s power and confidence, as well as strong community connections, in order to work toward creating meaningful and lasting change-individually, collectively, and communally. The purpose of these discussions is ultimately to delve deeper into the impacts of racism, to learn how to navigate racialized conflicts and to support efforts to achieve unity.
These three sessions are included in the Seminar program, however it is required that participants commit to attending all three sessions. Registration and choice of topics and time slots will be finalized on the last day of the Seminar. There is an option to continue these circles if the participants wish to do so.
